RUGBY

Rugby is now offered from Grade 4 through to Matric. Prep School Rugby is now in its fifth year at Dainfern College and our boys relish participating in this exciting sport. These boys play seven-a-side rugby with no scrums, no lineouts and no kicking. It includes rolling substitution.

High School rugby matches are one of the highlights of the Winter sports derby days. The High School continues to partner with the Development Rugby Club in Diepsloot to identify players in each age group from the programme who show talent and potential. These players are then incorporated into our own Rugby programme to strengthen our depth in terms of numbers per team and to expose the development players to a more specialised and structured rugby programme.

PREP SCHOOL RUGBY

Boys from Under 10 through to Under 13 play in the friendly Co-Ed League. This year, we will be introducing rugby skills to Under 9s.

Rugby in the Prep School is played only during July, which makes for an extremely short but nonetheless exciting season, and we host four Saturday Rugby festivals, which is always a highlight for us. We split our main oval into four small fields and host schools such as Redhill, Beaulieu, Pecanwood, Southdowns, Reddam House Waterfall, St Martin’s, Kyalami, King’s School Bryanston, Bishop Baven, Sagewood, Sandton Primary and the Dainfern Panthers.

We are fortunate to have a number of seasoned coaches on our staff as well as some highly skilled, external coaches.

HIGH SCHOOL RUGBY

Our High School Rugby season starts with the annual Rugby Training Camp at the KONKA facilities in the heart of Magaliesburg in the February midterm break.

We then usually enter our 1st XV in the Treverton Winter Sport Annual Festival. This experience helps our players and teams in preparing for our league seasons back home. It is also a wonderful opportunity for all our players and coaches to enjoy a festival atmosphere and make new friends from all over the country.

Fixtures commence in the Winter season and are a firm favourite at the Winter derby days. We field five or six teams per season, depending on numbers, in the following age groups: U14, U15, U16/2nd XV and the 1st XV.
