Equestrian is an official sport at Dainfern College. As we do not offer this sport on campus due to the facilities required, all lessons and stabling are therefore done in a private capacity. Dainfern College riders have done very well in the InterSchools’ league and SANESA events.
SANESA is acknowledged by both the South African Equestrian Federation as well as SASCOC. Each province of South Africa has SANESA representation, some provinces being broken up into districts. Each province/district holds up to four multi-discipline competitions before July/August each year. The top eight riders with the most accumulated points in each discipline then go forward to represent their province at the annual SANESA National Championships, held in September/October. There are 15 recognised SANESA disciplines, and our riders may take part in any one of these.
Anyone from Grade 3 to Grade 7 may enter as part of the Dainfern College Equestrian team and Dainfern College riders have done very well in the InterSchools league. After accumulating enough points over the four qualifying shows in 2018, the Senior Preparatory had five riders who moved on to compete at the regional finals. From there, four riders were selected to represent Gauteng at the SANESA Nationals competition, where they achieved outstanding results
Equestrian in the Senior Preparatory is headed up by Ashleigh Kromm, who previously competed in the SANESA InterSchools’ League during her prep and high school career.
Prep School riders who compete in the SANESA InterSchools League are eligible for recognition in terms of the Prep School Colours Policy.

High School riders may take part in any of the 15 recognised SANESA disciplines. Having competed in four qualifying rounds in 2018, our High School Equestrian team were then eligible to compete at the regional finals. From there they were selected to compete for Gauteng at the SANESA Nationals competition. The results of these equestrians contributed to Gauteng being the provincial winners in their classes.
Equestrian sport in the High School is headed up by Evette Gemmill, who has represented South Africa in Veterans Polocrosse and continues to play club and provincial polocrosse.
From 2019, High School riders who compete for the school in the InterSchools league are also eligible for recognition in terms of our Colours Policy.
