Round Square Collaborative Tour to the Western Cape
On 6 September 12 Grade 7 students, together with Mrs Alcock and Mr Egbers, embarked on a Round Square Collaborative Tour to the Western Cape for four days. Round Square collaborations are unique events where delegates learn skills and life lessons through the Round Square IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service. This was a wonderful opportunity for our student delegates to engage with young people and staff from the other Round Square schools involved: Bridge House in Franschhoek, and St George’s Grammar School and St Cyprian’s School in Cape Town.
DAY 1: The students travelled to Cape Town and then Franschhoek where they met their Bridge House host families and spent the afternoon exploring the little town of Franschhoek.
DAY 2: The students from all the schools involved were hosted by Bridge House for a full day of team-building and cultural activities. Our students then travelled back to Cape Town and were hosted by St George’s families for the night.
DAY 3: A full day of activities was had, which included a tour of St George’s School, a visit to Muizenberg, a beach walk, lunch at the Marine Wharf and a braai and Astro hockey match at St Cyprian’s School, the hosts for the students’ final night.
DAY 4: Students enjoyed a busy morning organised by St Cyprian’s which included school-based activities as well as a service project with Schotsche Kloof Primary School. They then boarded the plane back to Johannesburg.
