We are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Baker as the new Dainfern College Executive Head and High School Principal. Mr Baker will join the College on 16 October 2024.

Mr Baker has a strong track record in educational leadership in independent schools and is ideally placed to lead our College on its continuing journey of excellence. He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Botany as well as a postgraduate Higher Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Town.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mr Baker has taught at Camps Bay High School, Noordhoek, Reddam House and St Stithians Boys’, building a strong reputation for dedication, care and excellence. He was then promoted to Deputy Headmaster (Academic Head) at St Stithians Boys’ College in 2007, a position he held until he was appointed Headmaster of Redhill High School in 2010. Since 2016 he has served as the Headmaster of King David High School Victory Park.

Mr Baker is a recognised academic leader in the sciences and served as a national portfolio moderator and practical examiner in Life Sciences for the IEB for several years. He has worked at a Round Square school before, where he championed the Environmentalism pillar, and has led several overseas student tours to various parts of Asia.

Mr Baker played first-team hockey at school in Cape Town. His other passions include scouting, classical music and the dramatic arts, and he has been actively involved in directing excellent school theatre productions throughout his teaching career. He has also chaired numerous culture programmes to ensure well-rounded skills beyond the sports field and the classroom.

We also take this opportunity to thank Mr Ray van Gass and Mr Koos du Toit, who stepped in as Acting Executive Head of College and Acting Head of our High School respectively, while the recruitment process took place. Their dedication, commitment and love for our school community are displayed daily. We cannot thank them enough for always going the extra mile: we are indeed privileged to have teachers and leaders of this calibre at our College.

Dainfern College has been a proud centre of holistic educational excellence for over 27 years, and we do not doubt that under the leadership of Mr Baker, our College will continue to go from strength to strength.
