The Dainfern College Swimming season was jump started with two InterHouse Galas on 25 and 26 January. The Prep and High School students’ spirits were on full display with costumes, posters and face paint.

The Prep School students eagerly participated in war cries, fun races, relays and individual events. The High School Heads of Houses even joined to drum up some extra spirit. Congratulations to Kraken who won the gala with 329 points, followed by Griffin with 284 and Phoenix with 166. Griffin House was awarded the Spirit trophy for their non-stop energy.

The High School students ensured there was an electric atmosphere around the pool. The event was the first InterHouse Gala held since 2020 and Griffin was proud to raise the trophy – their first win since 2016! Final results were: Griffin with 451 points, Phoenix with 418 points and Kraken with 385 points. Griffin House was awarded the Spirit trophy for their dancing and war cries.

Ten broken records

The High School Gala saw an amazing TEN records broken. Grade 9 student Amber Fairon was also awarded the trophy for Best Performance of the Gala for her record-breaking swim in the 100m Girls Junior Freestyle event – Amber swam a time of 1:02.78, breaking the previous record by a full 7 seconds! Amber also broke the U15 Girls Backstroke record previously set in 2006, the U15 Girls Butterfly record previously set in 2017 and the U15 Girls Freestyle record previously set in 2010.
