CAMBRIDGE STUDIES At DAINFERN COLLEGE

In addition to our 21-year track record of success in the well-respected South African Independent Examinations Board exit examination, Dainfern College is now also a registered Cambridge International school and has introduced the AS and A Level programme as an optional curriculum for our Grade 11 and 12 students. This new offer recognises the increasing importance of internationalism and enables us to benchmark ourselves globally.

At the end of Grade 10, our students choose whether to continue the IEB curriculum and write the National Senior Certificate (‘Matric’) at the end of Grade 12, or whether to follow the Cambridge Studies programme where they will write AS Level and A Level. Both programmes run in parallel and Cambridge Studies students continue to benefit from the College’s holistic developmental approach to education by partaking in all of the College’s offerings.

The Cambridge syllabus incorporates focused, in-depth and rigorous curricula and is thus best suited to the academically strong student who can work independently, has a proactive, self-driven disposition and is committed to daily, extensive academic application. A-Level students also need to be strong exam candidates as the final AS and A-Level exam results do not include any coursework component.

Students study five or six subjects in Grade 11 and write the Cambridge AS Level exams at the end of the year. They then go into their A2 year, studying three or four subjects to give them the A-level qualification at the end of Grade 12.
