2020 Prep Golf Challenge and National College Golf Championships
Dainfen College, in association with the Dainfern Country Club, was proud to host two Golf Championships recently – the Prep Golf Challenge on 5 March, and the National College Golf Championships from 8-10 March. The players enjoyed great weather across both Championships.
Prep Golf Challenge
The Prep Golf Championships were held on 5 March, and 68 players took to the course under a blazing highveld sun. The day was concluded with a formal dinner and awards ceremony at the Dainfern Country Club.
The results were as follows:
- Non-handicap section
1st place: Simthandile Tshabalala (Steyn City School) – 96
2nd place: Arjun Bajwa (AISJ) – 106
3rd place: Matthew Mayne (Kyalami Prep) – 109
1st place team: Simthandile Tshabalala and Joshua Edwards (Steyn City School) – 94
- Handicap section
1st place individual: Jayden Hoskins (Curro Aurora) – 69
2nd place individual: Tai Jun Jung (HeronBridge College) – 78
3rd place individual: Keegan Daws (Newton House) – 80

2nd place team: Jarryd Bogner and Jelani Minyaru (Dainfern College) – 72

2nd place individual: Casey Twidale (Curro Aurora) – 104

National College Golf Championships
The 20th National College Golf Championships invited High Schools from all over South Africa to participate, and this year we were thrilled to welcome Bishop’s Diocesan from Cape Town after a number of years. In total, 77 players took to the course in 38 teams, including two development sides from the South African Golf Development Board.
We welcomed the following schools: Balderstone Sports Institute, Beaulieu College, Bishop’s Diocesan College Cape Town, Curro Hazeldean Hoerskool, KES, Midstream, Parktown Boys’, SAGDB, St Alban’s, St Benedict’s, St David’s Marist Inanda, St Declan’s, St John’s, St Stithians, Steyn City School, Trinityhouse Randpark and Woodlands. Two Old Lions’ teams also joined the teams on the course on Sunday – it was wonderful to welcome back our alumni.

Ladies 1st place: Kera Healey (Trinityhouse Randpark) – 234 (+18)

Overall the two Golf Championships were a great success, and we look forward to welcoming the players back for 2021.
