Q. Is Dainfern College situated inside Dainfern Golf Estate?
A. No. While it does neighbour the Dainfern Golf Estate, as well as several other housing estates in Broadacres Drive, Dainfern College is not situated inside any estate and students from other areas beside these estates do attend the College.
Q. Do you have to live in the surrounding Dainfern area to attend the College?
A. Not at all: we have learners coming from as far as the West Rand, Midrand and Hartebeespoortdam.
Q. Is Dainfern College a private school?
A. Yes - Dainfern College is a private, independent school and a member of the Independent Schools' Association of ISASA. In South Africa private schools are termed 'independent schools'.
Q. What grades are offered at Dainfern College?
A. Dainfern College is a co-educational school offering Grade 0 through to Grade 12. Students are aged 5 turning 6 when they enrol in Grade 0 and usually 17 turning 18 in Grade 12.
Q. Does Dainfern College offer boarding facilities?
A. No, we do not.
Q. What uniforms do learners wear?
A. A detailed list of uniforms is available on the Uniforms tab on the Grade 0, Junior Preparatory School, Senior Preparatory School and the High School menus of our website. All uniforms can be purchased from McCullagh & Bothwell. Our College Shop also has a wide selection of clothing at very reasonable prices.
Q. When does the academic year commence?
A. In line with all South African schools our academic year begins in January and ends in December.
Q. How is the year divided?
A. In line with recommendations from the Independent Schools' Association of South Africa (ISASA), we have three calendar terms: term one is from January to April, term two from May to August and term three from September to December. Click here for the 2013 Term Calendar.
Q. Can pupils enrol at Dainfern College at any time during the year?
A. Yes - we have learners starting at any time during the year. As several of our children come from overseas where they work on different school calendars, we are set up to ensure that new students integrate as seamlessly as possible. We have a buddy system from day one where a learner is teamed up with a learner in their class to show them around for the first few days. Our school counsellors are there to assist with any concerns that new learners may have. We also have a wonderful parent support group who generously assist new families with any queries they may have with their relocation and with settling in.
Q. How often do you report back to parents on learners' progress?
A. In Grade 0 learners receive two written reports per year, one at the end of the second term and one at the end of the third term; in Grades 1 to 3 they receive one report per term. From Grade 4 to Grade 12, the academic year is divided into two semesters and these learners receive detailed reports after each semester as well as a brief progress report twice a year.
Q. What exit examinations are offered at Dainfern College?
A. The Grade 12 Dainfern College pupils write the Independent Examinations Board matriculation examination known as the National Senior Certificate, which is internationally recognised. For more information, read our IEB page.
Q. What are your Matriculation results like?
A. We have had a 100% matriculation pass rate for 12 consecutive years. In 2012 our matrics achieved 100% access to tertiary studies, with 94.7% being degree passes. They achieved an average of 1.3 distinctions per candidate; three students achieved 6 distinctions each; three students achieved 5 distinctions each; and several students were ranked in the top 1% of the IEB for their individual subject achievements.
