Dainfern College

On Sunday 5 February 2012 a number of Dainfern College learners took part in the Johannesburg City Triathlon events at Germiston Lake. There were different distances relevant to the various age groups so a few of our Prep School children, Kelly Fairon and Finn Elliot from Grade 5 and Anna Moreira and Jenna Thornton in Grade 6 participated in a Kids Tryathlon event. They had lots of fun and did really well. They are all looking forward to the next one!

A number of High School learners also took part. They were:

Grade 8: Mia Bam;

Grade 9: Kallen Browne, Mitchell Sparrow, Sam Lambson and Michael Moreira;

Grade 10: Bevan Willoughby and Bradley van der Merwe;

Grade 11: Nicholas Stein, Daniel Moreira and Ashleigh Sparrow;

Grade 12: Jaryd Browne took part in a team event with Travis Johnstone.

The Grade 8 and 9 learners had to swim 400m, cycle 10km and run 2.5km.

The Grade 10 and 11 learners had to swim 750m, cycle 20km and run 5km.

As well as being the Johannesburg City Triathlon this event doubled as a Gauteng Provincial selection event as well. Results were as follows:

Girls 14 - 15 category

Mia Bam - 3rd (Bronze Medal)

Kallen Browne - 7th

Boys 14 - 15 category

Mitchell Sparrow - 3rd (Bronze Medal)

Sam Lambson - 5th

Michael Moreira - 8th

Girls 16 - 17 category

Ashleigh Sparrow - 2nd (Silver Medal)

Boys 16 - 17 category

Daniel Moreira - 1st (Gold Medal)

Nicholas Stein - 6th
