As part of our commitment to being involved with the community, Dainfern College has adopted Reshomile Primary school in Diepsloot as our Outreach school. Parents, the school and the pupils have been involved in different ways to help and uplift the school.

Our partnership with Reshomile our Outreach school has continued to grow in leaps and bounds and 2011 was a very successful year. These are some of what we achieved:

  • The official opening of Reshomile Library.
  • Easter Eggs drive: The whole school received eggs.
  • Winter clothes and blanket drive.
  • Mealie meal drive.
  • Christmas hamper drive.
  • Sandwich-making every Thursday afternoon.
  • Stared IT training for Reshomile teachers twice a week.
  • The PA extended its feeding scheme to 150 Reshomile school orphans.
  • Grade 7 Outreach Group was started – they were involved in packing and distribution for all the drives undertaken this year.

Our plans for 2012 include:

  • Initiation of more combined Staff Development opportunities between Dainfern College teachers and Reshomile teachers.
  • The PA will start paired reading activities.
  • Continuation of our yearly Drives, including the Easter Egg drive, Winter clothes and blanket drive, Mealie meal drive, Christmas hamper drive.
  • Each child on a rotational basis to donate a loaf of bread once a week to make sandwiches.
  • Grade 6 will also be encouraged to join Outreach on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • The PA would like to register more orphans for the Feeding Scheme.
  • Continue with Computer Training for the teachers, but this time to be more subject and skills related e.g. maths teachers to be taught how to draw graphs etc.
  • To appeal for more loaves towards making sandwiches.
  • Work together with the PA and make knitted squares.
  • Increase the number of learner-to-learner driven initiatives.

I would like to thank all the parents, pupils, teachers and the community for your support in 2011 and hope this continues in 2012!
