The Grade 3s have fun with Dr Seuss

At the end of each term in Grade Three at Dainfern College, we have Theme Day. This is a day in which we celebrate all the learning (disguised as fun!) that we have been involved in for the term.

This term, we've explored the rhyming patterns and poetic license which Dr Seuss uses in his books. We started off exploring the book, Oh the places we will go. This lead us to the Lorax and the lessons he had for us with regards to our environment (and our need to care for it). We then spent a day with The Cat in The Hat, and delighted at all the tricks he got up to. And Horton taught us that 'a person's a person no matter how small', in the book Horton Hears A Who

This term's Theme Day was centered around these books. We had four rotations set up: The first saw the children playing broken telephone, and getting tongue twisted with Dr Seuss poems. They then moved on to crazy cat in the hat games. At the third rotation, the children made themselves a pair of reading classes. Finally they made Horton droppings, following a recipe and working together as a team. The reward at the end of it all was being able to eat their chocolate-flavoured Horton droppings.
