Life Orientation
Life Orientation aims to enable teens to be effective, empowered and autonomous in their world.
Life Orientation in Grades 8 and 9 focuses on helping learners to develop knowledge, skills and values in the following four areas:
- Health promotion: personal and environmental health and well-being.
- Personal well-being – emotional, social, spiritual, physical, intellectual.
- Citizenship – social and environmental awareness, human rights.
- Recreation and physical well-being – Physical education and health.
- Careers and career choices – Job shadowing, post-school options.
Grade 8 and 9 learners should develop the following skills: decision making, communication, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, coping with peer pressure, dealing with diversity, critical thinking, career choices, self-reflection, self-development and growth, coping with stress, planning, organisation, study skills.
Grade 8 and 9 learners should develop the following values: tolerance, responsibility, autonomy, independence, social and environmental awareness, human rights, health.
