Afrikaans 1st Additional Language
The Afrikaans Department takes a communicative approach to teaching the language. Dainfern Afrikaans teachers regularly exchange material with other schools and attend the annual Independent Examination Board Conferences in order to stay on top of the latest developments in Afrikaans education. Our excellent Matric results, year after year, speak for themselves.
By Grade 10 students are expected to have a core vocabulary base from which to work. Revision, extension and reinforcement form the basis of the syllabus.
Language structures include:

At the beginning of the year Grade 10s told Afrikaans ‘Van der Merwe jokes’ and learnt that humour is culture specific!
In September, the Grade 11 learners were taken to Pretoria University (Tukkies) and spent the day experiencing student life in many different fields in order to prepare them for tertiary education.
Annually, PIT-Produksies visit Dainfern to perform the Matric set works. We invite other schools in the area to join us in this workshop theatre feast and the Grade 11s and Grade 12s find this an enjoyable and enriching experience.
