Aims and objectives
The isiZulu Department at Dainfern College aims:
- To teach and assist learners to understand isiZulu language as it is commonly spoken in public places and work-places such as shopping malls, supermarkets, filling stations and certain government departments.
- To foster an understanding of isiZulu culture and embrace it with other cultures offered in the school.
- To teach and assist non-mother tongue learners who are still unable to read and write isiZulu language.
- To teach and assist mother-tongue learners who still struggle with written language despite the fact that they speak the language. Their spelling is a problem and often they use too much slang.
What is taught?

LISTENING AND SPEAKING:
The learner is able to listen and speak for a variety of purposes, audiences and contexts.
READING AND VIEWING:
The learner is able to read and view for understanding and evaluate critically and respond to wide range of texts.
WRITING AND PRESENTING:
The learner is able to write and present a wide range of purposes and audiences using conventions and formats appropriate to diverse contexts.
LANGUAGE USAGE:
The learner is able to use language structures and conventions appropriately and effectively.
