Advanced Programme Mathematics is offered to our top Mathematics learners as an eighth subject. We are fortunate enough at Dainfern College that the required lesson times have been fitted into the daily timetable and all learners in the top set automatically study Advanced Programme Mathematics.
Learners start studying Advanced Programme Mathematics at Grade 10 level where they are introduced to Calculus, advanced Algebra, Statistics, Group Theory and Mathematical Modelling. In Grade 11, Calculus (both differential and integral) and Algebra are compulsory modules, and a third module is chosen from Statistics, Group Theory and Mathematical Modelling. At Dainfern College, our teachers have experience in teaching all the optional modules.
Advanced Programme Mathematics is an invaluable introduction to more advanced Mathematics and Calculus, particularly for those learners wishing to study Mathematics at a tertiary level. Past experience has shown that learners who register in the medical, scientific and engineering faculties are at an advantage during their first year of Mathematics. As it is an eighth subject, learners need to have both proven mathematical ability and a sound work ethic in order to make a success of their studies. Organisational skills and an ability to work independently are also vital.
