Dramatic Arts
What is Drama but life with the dull bits cut out? ~ Alfred Hitchcock - film director
Dramatic Arts is an opportunity for the students to express themselves creatively: the emphasis is placed on DOING rather than perfection; nurturing self-realisation with confidence; allowing a unique and individual style.
The study of Dramatic Arts exposes students to the varied aspects of the Performing Arts: film-making, scriptwriting, marketing, backstage work, sets, costume, well as multiple performance techniques.
Other ‘side-effects’ that are achieved using the tool of Dramatic Arts are: tolerance, team-work, respect, compromise, time-management, commitment, discipline, ingenuity and creative problem solving. Creativity, ‘making a plan’ and sticking to deadlines are possibly the most important elements of this subject, as the very nature of this subject depends on the adage:
THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
There is the misconception that Theatre and the Dramatic Arts have no money. To survive in this industry, one has to be a jack of all trades: it is not just a short job opportunity performing in a soapie, advert, one theatre production and that’s it; it can be a full-time, life-long career.
To be a good actor you have to be something like a criminal: to be willing to break the rules to strive for something new. ~ Nicholas Cage - actor
