The Grade 10 and 11 IT students were required to create a podcast as part of their research task for Information Technology this cycle. The task was such a wonderful success that Mrs Macmillan and five of her Grade 10 IT students were invited by ThinkAhead to host a “Show and Tell” session on the use of podcasting in education on 13 June 2012. These sessions, on how to use iPads in education, are run for teachers from schools across Johannesburg.

Mrs Macmillan introduced the topic and gave an overview of the project specifications. Thabang Ndlovu then discussed general hints and tips about podcasting, Jeffrey Nengwenani and Siyabonga Msimang discussed the merits of using GarageBand for podcasting, and Jonathan Bouwer and Liam Waddicor coordinated a hands-on session for the teachers to create their own podcasts. As part of the presentation different podcasts from other subjects such as Life Sciences and History were shown to the audience.

The young men did Dainfern College proud and confidently handled this event extremely well and received many accolades from the teachers present.

Lulu Burger, iPad training manager for ThinkAhead sent this message of thanks to the team:

"Thank you for your wonderful message and also the amazing way you have made yourself and your learners available to make our Show and Tell session the best ever. We had teachers leaving saying that they have learnt so much and that they never knew the iPad could do all of that.

It is truly a privilege to work with a school like Dainfern - positive teachers, learners and just an overall willingness to embrace and integrate the iPads effortlessly into the classrooms."

 Well done, boys!
