Cheyna selected for World Champs PDF Print E-mail

Dainfern alumnus and Tuks' number 1 Squash player, Cheyna Tucker, has been selected as a member of the South African Senior Squash Team to participate in the World Women's Squash Championships being held in Palmerstone, New Zealand, at the end of November 2010.

This is the highest accolade a South African squash player can be awarded as Squash is not represented at the Olympic Games.

According to TuksSquash Head Coach, Liz Mackenzie, Cheyna has made remarkable progress this year as she adapted to student life (Cheyna is a first-year B Sport Science) as well as the tough and tiring training schedule of the Academy Programme. The whole programme has been an adjustment for Cheyna, who has never worked on a skills-based programme before, but who maintained her junior ranking simply by playing in tournaments.

Considering most squash players peak at the age of about 24, Cheyna is way ahead of the rest: she was selected two days short of her 20th birthday - a fantastic achievement for this young star. Cheyna is a member of the TuksSquash Academy Programme and hopes to play in at least two WISPA (professional tour) events on her way to Worlds.

Cheyna matriculated from Dainfern College in 2008 – Dainfern College is very proud of her achievements!
