Senior Preparatory Phase

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” ~William A. Ward

This year I would like to pay tribute to every teacher at our Preparatory school. It takes an inordinate amount of effort to be positive, to be energetic and to be inspiring every day. I know, however, that our teachers make this effort every day for the sake of the children they teach and for this I am eternally grateful: From our Grade 0 teachers who provide the opportunities for our children to learn through play and fun activities. To our Grade 1 teachers who start teaching our children to read, to our Grade 2 teachers who start extending the learning and reading process and to our Grade 3 teachers who put the finishing touches on the Junior Preparatory, through a more formalized learning experience.

My tribute continues to our Grade 4 teachers who gradually change “learning to read” into “reading to learn” and then on to our Grade 5 teachers who nurture and teach an increased work load. Finally to our Grade 6 and 7 Learning Area specialists, who complete the Prep School child. A child that will have the confidence to believe in their own abilities, a child that will cope with the academic, cultural and sporting demands of a High School and most importantly a child that will make decisions based on a sound value system.

For this product of Dainfern College Preparatory, I would like to thank every teacher, every sports coach and every remedial, speech and occupational therapist, for their dedication, for their commitment and for their love of our children.

I would also like to pay tribute to our amazing children - their effort, their passion for our school and their desire to be the best that they can be. This has enabled Dainfern College Prep. to achieve many things this year.

My most memorable moments include: The spirit of the Water Festival, the tension of the night series cricket matches, the varied and wonderful class assemblies, our first and extremely successful softball festival, the entertaining music soirees, the exceptionally competitive netball festivals, Founders Day, the numerous sporting, cultural, academic and class tours, exciting inter house events and so much more….

These and many more wonderful memories of 2009 are highlighted in the pages you are about to read. If you are a prospective parent, this is just a taste of the life of a child at Dainfern College Prep.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I would like to pay tribute to out incredibly supportive parents. Thank you for sharing your sons and daughters with us. Thank you for your passion for our school and for your understanding that we are all human and sometimes mistakes are made. However, the most important part is learning from these mistakes and moving forward for the ultimate benefit of the child.

There is no doubt in my mind that working together we can give your child “A world of education and an education for the world”

On offer from the Senior Preparatory School

Dainfern Senior Preparatory School provides a stimulating learning environment where the dedicated staff is wholly committed to the guidance and development of each individual.  Class teaching occurs at Grade Four and Five levels, whereas the focus in Grade Six and Seven is on subject teaching with specialist teachers. In addition to the standard subjects on offer, our Thinking Skills and Design and Technology programmes enhance the advancement of personal initiative and the effective application of logic, "thinking" and knowledge.

Computer literacy and EMS (Economic and Management Sciences), which are a vital part of our contemporary lifestyles, are an important part of our integrated curriculum.

At Dainfern Preparatory, we believe in "growing" and challenging our children in all spheres - academic, sporting
and cultural. The extensive range of sporting activities available include athletics, cross country running, softball, cricket, netball, soccer, hockey, swimming and golf.  The culturally orientated child is able to select from ballet, chess, craft classes, choir, drama, karate and recorder or music lessons. Drama has a high profile in the school
and we alternate between presenting an English Dramatic Festival or a major Production every year.
